Mr. Akshay Kumar Sutariya is a Doctoral Researcher in the Transportation Engineering and Planning section under the guidance of Dr. Rakesh Kumar at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat, Gujarat, India. Before joining SVNIT, he worked as an Assistant Professor at Swarnim Startup and Innovation University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India. He obtained a Master's degree in Transportation Engineering from the Tatva Institute of Technological Studies, Modasa, Gujarat, India. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the Government Engineering College, Modasa, Gujarat, India.
His research lies at the intersection of investigating pavement performance characteristics under varying filler types and proportions and conducting economic assessments. He is working in various areas of pavement engineering, including reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and sustainable development; advanced characterisation of pavement filler materials; pavement design and construction materials, such as warm-mix additives in binders; and pavement durability and the impact of climate change on performance. For the last four-plus years, he has been involved in several consultancy projects that focused on the fundamental characterisation of cement, concrete, and asphalt pavement materials, as well as the circularity assessment of roadway technologies. He is also working in close collaboration with several experts from different government organisations on various studies that aim to minimise the lifecycle costs of road construction and maintenance, to meet the goals of sustainable development and the transition to net-zero emissions, using industrial waste materials.
He is also a lifetime associate member of the Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI) and the Indian Road Congress (IRC). He has authored / co-authored and contributed to three research papers at international conferences and five in peer-reviewed journals to date. Furthermore, he has delivered multiple presentations and invited talks at various educational institutions and Municipal Corporation in India on pavement analysis and design, as well as on sustainable infrastructure development utilising industrial waste.
